I think Ive found the procedure used by Rick
Priestley for generating Warmaster units point values.
Proceed as follow:
Add together ATTACKS and HITS values (including each
point of 30 cm ranged attacks).
Add the ARMOUR value (1 point for 6, 2 points for 5+, 3
points for 4+, 4 points for 3+).
Add + 1 for cavalry, monster, or chariot stands.
Add + 1 for flying ability.
Add + 1 for terror causing creatures.
The result is the profile value of the model (one
stand).
Now check the corresponding points cost on the chart below.
PROFILE CONVERSION CHART:
The number on the left is the Profile Value, and the number on the right is the Points
Cost FOR ONE SINGLE STAND (of course multiply this by three to have the cost of an entire
unit).
6 -10
7 -15
8 - 20
9 - 30
10 - 40
11 - 50
12 - 65
13 - 80
14 - 100
15 - 120
16 - 150
Of course the points cost generated is often adjusted
to compensate some special rules.
Some examples confirming my theory:
Chaos Dragon Ogres: 6 attacks + 4 hits + 2 for armour (5+ save) + 1 for being monsters,
profile total 13 who gives 80 points on the PROFILE CONVERSION CHART for one stand. One
unit of 3 stands costs 240 points (80 x 3), not so distant from the 250 given on the
official Chaos List in the rule book.
Undead Sphinx: 4 attacks + 6 hits + 4 for armour (3+
save) + 1 for being a monster, + 1 for terror causing creature, profile total 16 who gives
150 points on the PROFILE CONVERSION CHART which is exactly the cost in the rule book.
This conversion system seems to work even for some
artillery:
Dwarf Flame Cannon: 1 attack + 7 ranged (the average of 2D6) + 2 hits + 1 for armour (6
save), profile total 11 who gives 50 points on the PROFILE CONVERSION CHART which is
exactly the cost in the rule book.
I hope this system could prove a useful guide for
creating new units.
