Empire 1000 What follows is my latest 1000 pt. Empire army, which can form a good basis for starters. One thing you may notice with interest is the lack of cannons. I find one unit of cannons a bit light, and hard to move...so I feel I spent my points better elsewhere. The army is as follows... General - 125 pts. Hero with Sword of Might - 90 pts. Four units of Halbardiers with two stands of Skirmishers - 230 pts. Two units of Crossbowmen - 110 pts. Two units of Handgunners - 130 pts. Two units of Knights - 220 pts. One unit of Pistoliers - 95 pts. Eleven units, break point six. The Halbardiers and Skirmishers are arranged into a single brigade, the Handgunners and Crossmen into a second, and the Cavalry into a third. The Hero is in charge of the Cavalry...you may want to permenantly attach him to them so they get the +2 attacks (+1 for hero, +1 for sword). The General is in charge of the two infantry brigades. My usual tactic is to keep the two infantry close...leaving a gap only large enough to fit one cavalry stand through. Keep the cavalry directly behind them. Move slowly...keeping the brigades no more then one move away from each other. The small gap serves two purposes...it allows you to 'aim' the cavalry, and spring them...it also forces the enemy to engage the infantry first...if they try to charge through, it can only be with cavalry, and only one stand will ge through. So...patience...use the infantry as a screen, then spring your attack. This also works well for Bretonnians... Warmaster Brian II
