WaveRider

  Ship: Waverider
  Ship-of-the-Line

A sqaudron consists of 3 Waveriders.

The Waverider is a very small trimaran vessel that is based upon the racing boats of the elven nobles. It is a very lightweight boat, so it can only carry a limited armament. It also cannot operate for long periods offshore, or in very rough seas.
Since the boat is so much more manouvreable than most ships encountered in naval conflict, she may make turns upto 180∫ at a cost of 2" of movement. To turn, simply pivot the boat about the prow (front) of the hull.

Since the boat has a very shallow draught, there are no below-the-waterline locations and any events which would cause damage to these locations are ignored.

The rigging comprises the mainsail, which like most other Elven ships is triangular. To augement this in good conditions, the Waverider may deploy a parachute kite. This gives the ship a burst of speed when the wind is behind her, but cannot be used in strong crosswinds or when the ship has turned into the wind. The parachute kite cannot be used if the ship has made any turns that would take her out of the direction of the wind.

The ship carries just a handful of crew, as she does not have sufficient space to embark an entire company. Used mainly by local defence militia rather than the mainstream fleet of Ulthuan, this ship is only armed with one forward firing Eagleclaw battery. As the crew complement is so small, they will never initiate boarding actions and may never counterattack the enemy.

  Move:
  2 x 6" (2 x 8" with wind behind)

  Weapons:
  1 forward Eagleclaw

Crew: 1 (may never attack / counterattack)

  Points value for squadron:
  100
